Wisdom teeth are our last molars to develop and erupt. In many people there isn’t any space or room left in the mouth for these to erupt and the wisdom teeth are then “impacted”. If the wisdom teeth haven’t come through, by the age of 21 it is important to see us to ensure the wisdom teeth impacted under the gums aren’t causing other damage, such as:
- decay and resorption of the tooth next to it
- movement of other teeth as these wisdom teeth try to push through
- gum infections, as it can be very difficult to clean, being so far back in the mouth
